City Council Authoring a Transit Authority Framework

Yesterday, the Honolulu City Council’s Executive Matters and Legal Affairs Committee “unanimously passed a resolution proposing a City Charter amendment to create the authority” according to this article in the Honolulu Advertiser.

While the final vote is set for Dec. 16th, this step in the rail process is important to the overall management of the rail project.  If passed, the framework will create a specific department to oversee construction and operation of the elevated rail transit system.

Councilman Donovan DelaCruz reportedly proposed the transit authority resolution. DelaCruz has also announced his bid for Honolulu Mayor in the 2010 election.
